A Real Life Story from Top Awards - Ben Barrett, Ely District Explorers


Explorer Scout Ben Barrett from Witchford near Ely has been awarded the Chief Scout's Platinum Award, the Scouting equivalent to D of E Bronze.

Ben is rightly proud of his achievements, like being one of the first, or the first, Explorer to being a 16 Hour qualified First Aider, which he achieved in January 2007, being part of a team to be first to get the Bronze D of E Award. and now being the FIRST person in Ely Scout District to achieve the Chief Scout’s Platinum Award.

First Ever Chief Scout Award for 1st Warboys Scout Group

For the first time ever a Scout in 1st Warboys Scout Group has earned his Chief Scout Gold Award

Oliver Hancox, aged 14, first became involved in scouting as a Beaver Scout in 2002. He has now left the Troop to continue his scouting journey by being a Young Leader with the 1st Warboys Cub Pack and an Explorer Scout with the Cromwell Explorer Unit based in St Ives. Oliver earned the Award during his time with Gateway and 1st Warboys Scout Groups.

Scouting Top Awards to Scale New Heights

Sunday 29th November 2009

This weekend Cambridgeshire Scouts honoured a record breaking 300 plus Young Heroes from across the County. Children as young as eight stepped up to receive awards for dedicated participation in adventurous activities and helping better the community and our environment from The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mr David Riddington OBE, who congratulated the Scouts on their successes.

Taking place at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough on Sunday 29th November, Top Awards 2009 celebrated the very best of what young people can achieve together.

Awards included some of the highest merits such as the Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, the Queen’s Scouts Award and the nationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
