First Ever Chief Scout Award for 1st Warboys Scout Group


For the first time ever a Scout in 1st Warboys Scout Group has earned his Chief Scout Gold Award

Oliver Hancox, aged 14, first became involved in scouting as a Beaver Scout in 2002. He has now left the Troop to continue his scouting journey by being a Young Leader with the 1st Warboys Cub Pack and an Explorer Scout with the Cromwell Explorer Unit based in St Ives. Oliver earned the Award during his time with Gateway and 1st Warboys Scout Groups.

Amongst the numerous other things he had to accomplish Oliver:

  • Stayed on board HMS Belfast in London
  • Was part of the winning team at Cromwell District Patrol Camp
  • Has undertaken work at the District Scout HQ in St Ives to help maintain the site (which is used by Scout Groups from across the District and beyond)
  • Helped at Cub Pack meetings with the 1st Warboys Cub Pack

Oliver Hancox (aged 14) said “ I’m really proud to be the first Scout in the Warboys Troop to earn the Chief Scout Gold Award and I’ve really enjoyed the journey to do so”

Tony Best, District Commissioner Cromwell Scout District commented “ Oliver is another great example of how the youngsters of today can achieve anything they set their mind to with the right opportunities and support. Thanks to the exciting opportunities the leaders are able to offer through scouting today I’m sure the Warboys Troop will soon have more Scouts following in his footsteps.”
